Common Sources of Slow Leaks

Bead leaks: The bead is the edge of the tyre that seats tightly against the wheel rim. Over time (especially on alloy wheels)  corrosion builds up on the rim face. This creates microscopic gaps that allow air to escape. Completely invisible from outside the tyre.

Valve stem and valve core issues: The rubber valve stem perishes over time. The small internal valve core can loosen from vibration. Check by pressing a wet finger over the valve. If bubbles form, you've found the leak.

Hairline cracks in the rim: From impacts or corrosion, can allow very slow air loss without visible damage.

Micro-punctures: From very fine wire, sewing needles, or glass shards. Almost impossible to locate visually. Submerging the tyre in water and watching for bubbles is the traditional reliable method.

This increases rolling resistance, wears the outer tread edges faster, generates heat in the sidewalls, and progressively weakens the tyre structure.
