Major Car Service - Can a Car Really Need All Wheel Bearings Replaced?
Share
Replacing a single wheel bearing is common. Replacing all four? That’s extremely rare but not impossible.
Recently, an AWD SUV rolled into our workshop making a grinding noise so loud we joked we could hear it coming from Hampton Park. At first, it sounded like a front wheel bearing, which is usually the case. We replaced it… but the noise didn’t stop. Then another wheel. Still noisy.
Only after checking every corner did the full story emerge.
The vehicle was a Jeep, normally tough and reliable but it hadn’t been set up for serious off‑roading. The owner later confirmed it had been taken off‑road doing some heavu rock-climbing, and that punishment had taken its toll. Incredibly, all four wheel bearings were damaged.
It’s rare, but this was the exception that proves the rule: harsh conditions can wear out everything.
That's the thing about wheel bearings. They don't fail all at once overnight. The damage builds gradually, kilometre by kilometre, until that low hum turns into a grind you can't ignore. By the time it's loud, the wear has often already spread further than you'd expect.
If your vehicle is making any kind of grinding, humming, or rumbling noise — especially one that changes with your speed — don't wait. Come into your local Tyreplus workshop and let us take a listen. A wheel bearing check takes minutes and catching it early can save you hundreds down the road.
Book your inspection today. We'll find the noise before it finds you.
